What is a sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin generally are more prone to adverse reactions or responses. Usually showing signs of inflammation and redness. Sensitivity may be consistent or may fluctuate due to the cause.

What can impact a sensitive skin?

Sensitive skins typically have an impaired barrier, meaning the protective layer of the skin is broken and damaged. Therefore, when the skin comes into contact with some chemicals, dyes and fragrances it may have an adverse reaction or response.

What can you do to prevent and improve a sensitive skin?

Finding the main cause of the sensitive skin is important.  Avoiding those suspected irritants will prevent further reactions and responses. Building the skins barrier functions and improving the protective layer will significantly improve sensitive skin.

  • Avoid harsh exfoliators, cleansers and scrubs as these will strip the skins protective barrier. Skin should never feel tight after cleansing or exfoliating.

  • Drink plenty of water. Drinking water will keep skin healthy and hydrated.

  • Wear SPF (sunscreen) every day. Protecting your skin from UV exposure will help prevent a damaged barrier.

  • Use high-quality cosmeceutical skin care and be consistent with your routine. Ensure you are using the appropriate ingredients sensitive skin.

  • Check your medication with your doctor for any side effects, some medications can impact skin sensitivity.
