Pores
What are pores?
Pores are where our hair, oil and sweat travels to the surface of the skin. We all have pores, you may notice them more in some areas than you do in other areas, such as your nose and chin.
What impacts pores and their size?
There are a few things that can impact how noticeable pores are. Enlarged pores can be genetic or can be caused by acne, blackheads and/ or excessive oil production. Pore size can also become more noticeable due to loss of elasticity and collagen in the skin, causing skin to stretch.
What can you do to prevent and improve an enlarged pore size?
-
Protect yourself from the sun to prevent damaging your collagen and elastin.
-
Avoid popping or picking pimples and blackheads as this may create scar tissue in the pores.
-
Avoid harsh exfoliators, cleansers and scrubs as these will strip the skin protective barrier and stretch pores. Skin should never feel tight after cleansing or exfoliating.
-
Have a high-quality cosmeceutical skin care routine and be consistent with it. Ensure you are using the appropriate ingredients for addressing pore size.
